Concerns on Home School In Texas

I am 17 years old, and I (obviously) live in Texas. My real father and mother divorced as I turned 5, and I haven’t spoken to my father in over 5 years (in addition, he is in prison), so he is far out of the picture. My mother has had countless boyfriends who have all treated me and my sister horribly, to the point of abuse and close to murder. She is married now, and has another child with her boyfriend, Kevin, who is not her husband (Joe). My family and I are still living with Joe, my mother’s husband, but everyone in the household is extremely unhappy. My mother is moving out to a house far away (but still in Texas) but I do not want to move with her. She cannot support herself, or any of her children, let alone her mother, too (my grandmother). My mother and I do not see eye to eye and she refuses to compromise, and only sees what is good for herself. I honestly, with all my heart, hate living with her, my step father, and my sister. The tension in our family life is too great, for there are a lot more issues that I don’t wish to bring up.

With the back story aside, I’ve chosen to move out of the house into an entirely safe environment at a friends house. The family I wish to stay with will support me fully. I have a job and intend to help with the costs of my living expenses to the best of my ability. I’m in school, currently, and plan to graduate and go to college. I’ve read tons of articles, but almost all of them say something different about this topic. I just want confirmation and any additional necessary information. I’ve read that you CANNOT move out LEGALLY until the age of 18 in the state of Texas without consent from parents or emancipation. BUT you can stay with another person or support yourself, and the Texas police will not force you to move back home, as long as you’re guardian(s) know where you are and that you are not in harm. I’m am curious on how filing a missing person report or runaway will affect the situation. What exactly will happen if a report is filed or can the parent even do that because the child is not really missing’

Thank you so much for your time. Please provide honest answers.
